boho twist.

courtesy of Abby

In LOVE! Another day another pony tail. But hey, their so easy and cute!  This one is really simple too.

1. Loosely curl your hair.[it doesn't need to be perfect, you could even just do the ends.}
2. Divide your hair in half. Each side divide in half again.
3. On one side take both pieces and twist all the way down to the nape of your neck and rubber band with a thin one.
 4. Repeat on the other side until the twist is at the first one and pony them together.
5. Tease a little bit of your pony tail to rough it up a little.

It's almost the weekend! :) Happy Styling

amazing find.

I am such a bargain shopper! I love it. Finding those awesome deals on amazing products..there's nothing better! If you share my love for cheap, quality stuff you'll appreciate it.

e.l.f; eyes, lips, face.

I found this line at Target one day. I was first drawn to the makeup brushes. Then I saw the price-always a deal breaker. $1-$3!! I was SOLD! Not only is the price amazing but these brushes are so soft. I don't know about you but have you ever put your makeup on and then had to pick off the little bristles left behind from those $15 brushes?? I have and I can't stand it! These are shed free and I swear by them.

I've since moved on to test out more of the line. You know those oil blotting sheets Clean&Clear makes, usually around $6/50sheets? Well e.l.f  makes them as well for the AMAZING price of $1/50sheets. :) Their blush is great too and lasts a really long time. Their eye shadows are really pigmented and are seemingly modeled after MAC.

I'm in love and had to share! Enjoy!

extra parts.

There are so many different components to hair; hair color, texture, length, porosity etc. Even with no two heads of hair being the same, we are all after one thing- ZERO FRIZZ!

I had a few blow dry's this morning and always the biggest concern is frizz. We're having a bit of a humid day today and of course everyone is getting all done up for the races. I've got a little bit of time between clients this morning and I thought I would share some stress saving news. :)

Yes the right products are helpful to achieving a frizz free style but have you considered your blow dryer?

Probable Causes:
1. You're not using a nozzle! That "extra part" that comes with your dryer. Without it, there is no control of the air flow causing the hot air to blow the cuticle open in all directions. Thus creating-frizz! There is a reason your dryer comes with it. That nozzle will direct the air flow and give you better control. Blow dry pointing the dryer down which will smooth and calm your cuticles.

-OR-

2. Your dryer is getting too hot! Some dryers just get hotter than others. But, if you've noticed that your dryer seems to be getting hotter than it used to, the vent needs to be cleaned out! If you clean it out at least once a month you will preserve the life of your dryer. Just remove the outer cage and wipe filter and cage with a barely damp cloth.

back to basics.

As a hairstylist I can look at a picture and just figure out how to do it. But, not everyone has had the same training as me. :P I wanted to take the time today to break down some of the basics of styling and maybe help you to figure these styles out a little better.

We'll start with a basic pony!
1. Pick up a horizontal section of hair at the crown{top of your head-about 2in long and 1/2in wide} Bring it straight up.
2. Using the smaller side of your comb, comb the hair from ends to roots{about 3 times per section.}
3. Repeat for 3-4 sections{depending on hair thickness}
4. Bring teased section back and smooth- being careful not to comb through what you just teased.
5. Section hair at the end of your eyebrows on each side and bring back{smooth the sides with a comb or your fingers.}
6. Secure with 2 bobby's- one on each side{the ridges should connect in an 'X'}
7. Take the rest of the front section and bring back to the previously pinned place and secure again with 2 bobby's.
8. Using a rubber band, secure the rest of your hair-making sure the pony is just below the bobby's.
9. If you wanna hide your hair tie, take a ribbon of hair FROM YOUR PONY and wrap it around the holder until you run out of hair-secure with a bobby-into the pony.

Voila! A Pony tail made easy. If you have hair that doesn't stay teased, use some hairspray on each section PRIOR to teasing.

I hope that my breakdown has/will help! Let me know- happy styling! :)

vintage inspiration.

I have been so obsessed with these vintage inspired styles. The hair, makeup, clothes...EVERYTHING! They're beautiful!

Found here.

The styles we are seeing right now aren't necessarily {new} , but they certainly are chic! All of these style's are so elegant and sophisticated yet so simplistic. I love it all- the hair, the makeup, and the fashion.

The hair requires an awesome back-combing job and some amazing hairspray..maybe a few bobby's if you have any layers. Hair has moved from being styled to sculpted. And that's how it should be!! Let's face it, for so long we could get away with just blow-drying and flat-ironing, but style is evolving!

If you're changing your hair routine, change up your makeup too!! What's {in} now is BOLD eyes [think thick winged liner and black mascara], GLOWING skin, PINK cheeks and NUDE shadows and lips! :)

To complete this look is your outfit! Flowy skirts, block colors, stripes, LACE and gold/brass jewelry!

Here is a super cute and simple style that is perfect to rock at the beach or on a night out!
If you don't have naturally curly hair you have a few options to create these waves.

1. use a salt spray on damp hair, scrunch and let it go!
2 use a 1in. clip-less iron and wrap 1in. sections in opposite directions. You can use a regular barrel iron as well(just watch out for creases.)

You can see this and more here..
From your part take pieces and create a french braid down the front to the side. Secure with bobby pins.

Get creative!! You can add another braid down the side or just keep the one. Make the braid thick or thin depending on your hair thickness and length.

*Remember that the picture is a guide and it won't look the same on everyone! :) Happy Styling...............

how-to: pretty twist

This is my favorite thing to do right now.. If only my hair was longer.

It is so simple.
1. Take two triangle sections; one on each side of your face.
(End of the eyebrow back to top of the ear.)
2. Taking both pieces at the same time bring them back.
3. Cross the right section over the left. ONCE.
4. The new piece in your right hand goes over twice. The piece in your left goes under once.
5. Pull tight and secure with bobby pins (1 on each end, straight through.)

--To add height to the top take the end of a rat tail comb and pull up. No teasing necessary! :)
You can continue the twists all the way down or just stick with one.

I hope this video brings you fun simple styling!

Happy Friday! :)

inspired--winged liner, nude shadows.

winged liner
This is by far my favorite makeup trend. It is so simple to do and it makes your eyes POP!!! You just need a few things for this one.
Light-Medium ash brown shadow/pencil for brows.
Light golden brown shadow.
White/iridescent shadow.
Black Mascara.
Black Liquid liner.

1. Start with your shadow-using a crease brush "pat" in circular motions the golden-brown shadow color; working from the outside in.{just in creases} If it is too light you can add another layer. Swipe the brush over your lids with what is left on the brush. If necessary blend the shadow between creases and brows. Repeat on the other side.

2. Using the lighter{white} shadow, apply in the corners of your eyes working your way in and under neath brows. {it should all be blended, from white to golden brown.} Repeat on the other side.

3. Using your angled brush, fill in brows.

4.Next using your liquid liner, start in the center of your lid creating a smooth line to the outside and angling it up slightly. From the center, continue the line in to the corner of your eye. Repeat on the other side. This creates the winged effect, it should be thin to thick.
{For a more dramatic effect you can make the line longer and thicker off the corners of your eye.}

5. Lastly, apply your mascara. For best results layer it on. The first 2 layers should be thin to avoid clumpy lashes.
Optional; take your angled brush and use some of the golden-brown shadow to swipe along the outside corner of the lower lid. :)

Change the colors up to what works best for you. Makeup is yet another form of expression and should represent you!
If you don't get the winged effect down perfect, just practice. You'll have it perfected in no time!

Tomorrow's Friday...finally :)

we love to party.

Summer parties are the best. They can start and end whenever you want. Even though the world sees us as grown-ups, I think many of us still hold onto our summer vacations. When you don't care if you have work in the morning, or what day it is..that's how you know its summer. Summer isn't official for me until my birthday. June 22, which just so happens to be the day after the calendar says its officially summer. That's my little kick off. :)
braid love.
 I love this! It's probably the easiest thing to do and when it's finished it looks as if you actually spent more than 3 minutes on it. :) No summer hair is complete without at least one braid. This is perfect for day time bbq's or evening soiree's.
polished perfection.

So pretty! This style is perfect for a summer weeding!! It's still playful yet super sophisticated. Adding a bow to the back will funk it up or wear it as is. Your call.

Figure out your style or change it up. It is {almost} summer afterall..... :)

summer.

Where has the time gone? I can't believe that it's already May!! Summer is rearing its beautiful head and I am so ready! I feel like summer brings along new hope, new loves and new beginnings- fresh starts!!

When we were younger summer was the best. Beach, pool, lake or anything involving water for that matter. Sun, friends, parties, and little responsibilities. It was and still is a time of freedom, love and laughter. A time to re-invent yourself.

Here are a few of my summer loves...

protect and repair.

found here.

With all this sun and amazing weather I feel it's important to share with you how to protect your lovely locks! Chlorine, salt-water and sun can do work on our hair and those once lustrous strands become damaged and frayed. If you color your hair you know what all of these things do. I have a few products that will help to prevent damage to your hair and repair what's already done.

Eufora's Hydration Leave-in Conditioner.
This is an amazing leave-in. It is so moisturizing yet light-weight and not greasy at all. I live off of this stuff, especially come summer time. A surprising fact- this bottle contains 75% pharmaceutical grade, certified organic, aloe-vera gel. PLUS--it has sun protecting properties which are cinnamon derived that work wonders on color treated and high-lighted hair.
*I put this in after getting out of the pool and it restores my hair to its silky, shiny state instantly!*
When you realize its too late or just want a little extra help conditioning, this one's for you!
Another great eufora product; urgent repair replenishing treatment. It contains 85% pharmaceutical grade certified organic aloe-vera gel; and menthol and camphor (which stimulate the skin and scalp and nourish your hair!) Not only is this awesome for your hair but great for sunburns! The aloe to soothe and the menthol and camphor to cool it down. Put some on at night and you'll wake up to a noticeably weakened burn. :)
Davines- such a wonderful line! :)
Originating in Italy, this natural product contains only the purest ingredients for your hair. I love this mask, you can use it daily or weekly for some extra repair. Its conditioning properties make it perfect for those of us who love to high-light our hair a little TOO excessively. ;)

Blondies-hate how your hair starts to turn green after a few too many dips in the pool?
Use leave-in conditioner before you jump in and you'll have a protective barrier. If it's already green, use a clarifying shampoo.
**Tip- don't use it too often or you'll need some extensive conditioning treatments :P

These same tricks can help out you darker haired peeps as well as red-heads! If you hate how your hair starts to turn brassy, use the leave-in!!

Go easy on those strands, after all, hair is our greatest accessory!

Happy Friday hair lovers! :)

creations.

Adding your own touch to anything is what makes it unique. So why does everyone think hair is so different? Really, there are only so many things you can do with your hair. You can curl it, straighten it, put it up or leave it down. Yes, there are things in between but those are the basics. But how do you make it look like you created it all on your own??
found here.
this and the following beauties found here.

Bows and headbands are so much fun! They don't need to be overly large or small. It depends on what your style is, where you're going and what feels good to you. If the style is simple add a larger bow. And if you have an eccentric style, a smaller bow should do the trick.

Its important to find things that are comfy on your head and something you feel confident in. Pick colors, size, style, etc. based on what YOU like. NOT what you see in the magazines.

Chelsea's shop is so cute! She makes the most amazing things! She can even create custom orders for you!! Check it out!

Happy Styling! :)
